Climate Displacement Lab (CDL) operates as a for-profit, research-driven data platform focused on documenting and analyzing climate-induced displacement across South Asia. The platform produces structured, event-level datasets derived from field research, secondary reporting, and geospatial analysis. In the course of this work, CDL handles limited information related to contributors, collaborators, and platform access. This policy outlines how such information is managed within the context of research, documentation, and operational requirements.

CDL primarily engages with environmental and displacement-related data rather than personal information. Any personal data handled by the platform is limited to what is necessary for communication, collaboration, or research coordination, and is typically provided by affiliated researchers or institutional contacts. CDL does not operate as a data-harvesting platform and does not collect personal information from general visitors beyond basic technical data required for site functionality.

Information handled by CDL is used to structure and verify displacement events, maintain internal consistency across datasets, support analytical outputs, and facilitate institutional, academic, or media engagement. While CDL operates as a for-profit entity and may engage in partnerships, data services, or institutional collaborations, it does not sell, rent, or commercially distribute personal user information, nor does it engage in advertising or user profiling practices.

CDL’s datasets are developed through structured research contributions rather than open public submissions. Data and case material are provided by affiliated researchers, collaborators, or verified contributors working within defined research contexts. In handling such material, CDL may review, standardize, and integrate submissions into its datasets, while removing or generalizing sensitive or identifying details where necessary. All contributions are subject to internal validation and methodological consistency prior to inclusion.

Aggregated or non-identifiable data may be shared with research partners, institutions, or collaborators as part of CDL’s analytical and policy-oriented work. Such sharing is conducted in a manner that preserves data integrity and avoids disclosure of personal information. CDL does not operate as a data brokerage service, and any institutional data engagement is aligned with research, policy, or public-interest objectives.

Due to the nature of climate displacement documentation, datasets are inherently dynamic and may evolve as new information becomes available. CDL prioritizes transparency in methodology and acknowledges that data may be incomplete, time-sensitive, or subject to revision. Users are encouraged to interpret all datasets within their documented analytical context.

Basic technical information, such as browser type or access logs, may be collected to maintain platform functionality and understand general usage patterns. This information is not used to identify individuals and is handled solely for operational purposes.

The CDL platform may include references to external reports, datasets, and third-party sources. Responsibility for the accuracy and content of such external materials lies with their respective providers.
